Perforated metal #3

I want to get an idea of what it's like to work with perforated metal: how it cuts, how it bends, what tools work on it; what the possibilities are. First, here are some sheet metal tools:

power shear

small hand shear

roller for bending metal

The first challenge is working with the directionality of the holes. The cuts and bends have to be oriented in relation to the holes in some way or else the edges of the piece might be hard to finish or handle. Also, there is an opportunity to allow the qualities of material determine the form of the piece.

Here's an example of where the cuts follow the hexagonal nature of the hole pattern, and the original rectangular shape of the sheet is abandoned.

  1. Very nice! The images itself explains how to make holes and how to bend holed metal sheet and the tools they using. I appreciate because an image tells more information than theoretical.
