Here's another photo of the edge, and also the perforations. I'm not showing the full wallet because we had a sewing meltdown due to the tough outside edge and couldn't complete it. Also, please ignore the wavy seams...
My ID in the pocket. I'm imprisoned by the perforations. Any comments on the perforation pattern would be welcomed.
Here's the previous edge design. More finished, but more conservative. Too conservative. If I can just bring the practical aspects of the this edge to the new one the wallet will be almost done!
I like how the perforations become a Mexican wrestling mask for your id. What if the rounded edge was in the inside fold and the seam stopped short of the radius?
ReplyDeleteMy wallet is falling apart- am waiting to try one of yours out. -cat
Hi Cat, thanks for your comment. Do you mean move the rounded edge to the middle of the wallet? About the seam, I think it has to continue because starts and stops don't look as clean and I'm trying to minimize them.
ReplyDeleteI see what you mean about stopping and starting seams. I did mean moving the rounded corner to the middle. What is the green mat'l? Do the pockets have to have that break in the middle- what if there was a seam instead and no hidden interior pockets?
ReplyDeleteWhat if you glue the sheets together and then do a second laser cut? It's fun to see money peeking out-especially if you have enough to put in a wallet :)
Okay, enough 20 questions. It's fun to see your idea take shape. Thanks for sharing.
Yeah, I'm working on the seam on the rounded corner: I do think that needs to be resolved better and have some ideas for the next try. the green material is recycled PET, and I do want there to be hidden interior pockets because I use those for business cards, etc.
ReplyDeleteabout cutting through both layers glued, that could be interesting... I did try to cut the assembly already glued and it was tough, but that doesn't mean I could adjust the machine and get it to work. maybe I'll try that...
perhaps the perforations could be special to each wallet. you could make perforations shaped like a fish or a random sprinkling or a single row or a christian cross or a smile or a donut or a truck or a submarine. or initials. I like Cat's idea of having perforations that reveal the green money. That would look good with the green material perhaps.
ReplyDeleteYeah it might be cool to vary the perforations in some way or offer custom. I wonder if there's a way to do that without adding tons of transaction time with customers...
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm probably not going to perforate the outside because there will now be some interesting seams on the outside resulting from the new edge assembly. Stay tuned for the next post!
