Original VW Beetle: Classic design, produced from 1938 to 2003.
New beetle (1994): they got it right. Modern yet still a bug.
2012 Beetle: what is this? It's no longer a bug to me, just a regular car.

I agree, to me it sort of looks like a warmed over PT Cruiser. I was excited when I heard they were refreshing the design, but I expected something more engaging than this.
