Finger joint?

Instead of eliminating the finger joint I tried to increase the frequency of the fingers, so that the joint would read as textured line. Interestingly, architects/designers seem not to like the finger joint, whereas normal people (like my mother) do like it. Since I'm an architect (not technically since I never got my license) I tend to not like it.

However, one change I made to the lamp which really works is to dado in the lamp floor, eliminating the tabs that had held it in before.

Here's the previous version with the tabs. Not as nice.

Next I'll try the main side joint again, this time with only a few fingers holding it together. I think this might be the best solution.

  1. I'm not so into it. Actually I don't really like the little tab foot either. The whole point is to have a transparent box through which you can see a world of texture, right? Why would you want to see little things sticking off of the box itself?

  2. Okay, it's decided, I'm not going to do the finger joint :) The tab foot might change too for various structural reasons. Stay tuned!
