Zip Tie Construction #1

This a zip tie that has been sewn but not finished: cutting the angled end is the final step in making the zip ties. The end has to be perfect, and if we cut the end first it would be too hard to start and finish sewing the zipper at the same point. So the bottom would be uneven.
Here's the incredibly clever jig I designed to chop the end with a knife. It's made of laser-cut acrylic. Actually... the jig leaves a lot to be desired. The cut comes out great but it takes a lot of hand pressure to hold the felt.
And here's the finished end. This tie is ready to ship out!

  1. Could you add some anti-slip tape to the bottom of the jig to stop it from slipping? Maybe just a couple of strips so that you can still see the tie underneath.

    1. Hi Jess, thanks for the comment. Actually I do have non slip tape on it: that's what the thin black strips are. The thing is the zipper area is a little thicker (which is why there's a cutout on the jig) and it makes it hard to grip the tip.

    2. would introducing a handle on the jig help with the grip?

    3. Yes it might... I'm going to wait a while and see if we learn anything by using it a little. Sometimes it takes a little while to figure out the best technique!
