Here's my first attempt at making a real lamp from the crumpled paper idea. The concept works: the most important thing is the quality of the light through the crumpled paper, and the housing doesn't get in the way. Here's how I made it:
This machine heats the acrylic sheet along a line so that it can be bent cleanly.
The outer box is made of 3/16" thick material.
With the inner box added, made from 1/8" material.
The paper goes between the two boxes and the lamp goes inside the inner box. The next step is to refine the body of the lamp so that it 'works' (inner and outer boxes are joined, holds the lamp socket, can be made easily), and also so that the form is so graceful that it doesn't distract from the glowing paper.
It needs a lid!
ReplyDeleteYes it will have a lid. I'll add one after the basic design of the housing takes shape a little more. Right now the bulb isn't even connected...
ReplyDeletehmm a lot of possibilities for filling that space.
