The problem with residential architecture

This is Antilia, a "house" built by the richest man in India. Interesting building, but I just read that although it has been complete for months, the family has yet to move in.

People build fancy houses for a number of reasons, most of which have nothing to do with actually inhabiting the space. I encountered this problem often when I was working as an architect. On the one hand this generates work for architects, but I think it's ultimately bad for design: creativity thrives on directness of communication and purpose, and this can't happen when clients don't know what they want.
