Yes he's a super-rich owner of an NBA team. But I checked out his blog (http://blogmaverick.com/) and he's got some interesting things to say about business. In my 5 or 6 years in the world of independent product design, it seems like I earned an informal business education through osmosis and trial and error. I've come to believe that most conventional wisdom (and education) in business is useless or worse than useless. I think Mark Cuban would agree.
Why is it that most successful entrepreneurs, like Mr. Cuban, come from outside of the business world? I think it's because business people are obsessed with growth and margin, and are fundamentally indifferent to the quality and uniqueness of their products. If I had a penny for every time somebody urged me to start manufacturing overseas to save a few bucks on my production cost, or wondered why I wasn't trying to get my products into big-box stores... They don't realize that doing these things would extinguish the magic of the design process. And without that there's no point being in the game.
