Wallet #2

I started laser-cutting materials for the new wallet. The interior and pockets of the wallet will be made of woven RPET (green), and the outer cover (silver) will be made of 100% nylon synthetic leather. Traditional PVC fake leather is not suitable for laser cutting because of the off-gassing.

I got some compliments from people at Techshop on my color choices (metallic silver and army green), and I had to tell them that I just grabbed random scraps that I had sitting around.

Here's the RPET folded and stapled into an approximation of the interior form. Even though the laser seals the edges, I'm still going to fold and sew the main exposed edges because they will probably fray with use.

Now with the synthetic leather added. The synthetic leather laser cuts really well, and you can see I've etched 'ACTUAL' on to the lower right.

Next step is bringing the assembly to the sewing co. to get it sewn. But before I do that I'm going to re-cut the pieces. As soon as I assembled them I saw some issues (mainly with the egdes). Stay tuned for the new cuts.

  1. No little plastic window for a driver's license?

  2. Tom, I'm thinking about the license. I wouldn't put in plastic, but I might put strategic holes in the material that would show parts of the license. Probably wouldn't carry from state to state though...
